I remember when I first got the canon s40 at the beginning of 2002. I LOVED IT!! I took that camera with me everywhere even though it was super bulky. I totally abused my camera with numerous drops to the ground that eventually the camera didn’t function properly on the dial settings. Well, after a good long 3 years, the camera died on me. At the time there was the canon s70 available but I opted not to get it.

So after years of rumors of the s90 being released, Canon released this baby this past August. After months of debating whether to get the s90, canon G11, sigma dp2, or ricoh gr….I went out and got the canon s90. I took it for a test drive over the weekend and was pleased with the results. Granted it’s not my 5d mark II but it’s a nice(almost dslr like) alternative when I go out with friends. I love how canon decided to make the s90 less bulky than its predecessors, it can actually fit in your pocket without making you look like a fool.

Sadly, I recently had to get rid of this great bag, the crumpler karachi outpost. Never in a million years did I think I would ever get a rolling bag but I did. Ultimately, I had no choice because the crumpler was overflowing with my equipment. I tried to fit as much as I could in there but in the end it was too cluttered. Luckily, I found a good home for this bag and it will give the new owner a good run. Nowadays you can see me pulling my think tank around.

This past weekend, I attended my brother’s flag football game and decided to take some pictures. The team just got their uniforms so everyone looked pretty snazzy. So I had a 70-200 lens on the 5d mark II and started shooting away. While I was shooting, I realized that 200mm is not enough for sports photography. If I wanted to get really close, then I think I would need a monopod and a 300 or 400mm lens. Sports photography is a whole different world. It’s especially hard at night, when everything is a blur when there is movement.

The guys were acting like they weren’t paying attention to me and my camera but they all secretly wanted their pictures taken. Now they can’t wait til their next game so they can get their photo op. Here are some of the pictures from the night. Since their game was the last one of the evening and the refs didn’t know that at exactly 11pm the stadium lights would go out, the game ended with 6 minutes remaining. In the last picture, there was just 1 light that was on so I boosted the ISO on the camera to 4000 and took the picture. No light = no problem. Gotta love the 5d mark II!

Now that I’ve had a chance to experiment with it, it’s actually pretty nice and handy. It definitely opens the door new possibilities such as integrating video with picture slideshows. This past weekend, I was able to get some video of Hyon Smith teaching during a photography seminar.
